For years I have been asking Marriott to adopt the "Green Choice" policy many SPG hotels had. These hotels would allow you to hang a sign on your door opting out of having your room cleaned on exchange for points.
This is great for the work traveler who is typically alone and not needing that much care. I particularly enjoy this policy because I like to conserve our world's resources. However, I enjoy the choice to do so and being rewarded in doing so instead of being forced to do so.
So when I learned about the Marriott and SPG merger, one of the first things I was hoping for was to see the Green Choice program be brought into Marriott properties. Well, in a recent trip involving a stay at a Marriott property I am pleased to announce that this program has been implemented!
If you are staying more than three days (four nights) at a Marriott property you may now opt to not have room serviced in exchange for 500 Marriott Reward points per day. This is good for up to three consecutive days and of course, just as it was with SPG, the staff may enter your room from time to time to check up on things.
Quick tip here- if you run out of anything such as towels, shampoo, conditioner etc... you can always ask the front desk to have them send some up or stop by to get additional supplies.
So what this basically means is that if the appropriate multipliers for your Marriott status apply you may receive a lot of points for literally no effort whatsoever. This makes the brand much more attractive and ultimately helps you make a great choice for the environment... and for your next vacation.
Bravo, Marriott. Bravo.
